The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.( I Timothy 1:14)
One Sunday in April, back when I was still a young man, something happened that I can only describe as God breaking through. The pastor was preaching—same as every week—and as always, he ended with an invitation. But this time, I knew the Lord wasn’t just speaking in general. He was speaking to me.
Before I even realized what I was doing, I was on my feet and walking forward to receive Jesus as my Savior. That moment changed the whole direction of my life.

From then on, everything I did was in response to Him. Again and again, God showed me that He could carry me through anything this world threw at me.
I remember when I lost my store. I didn’t know what the future held, and yes, I was scared. But I held onto Psalm 5:12: “For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.” I didn’t know how God would protect me—I just knew He would.
Not long after, I spent 18 months on the road selling church furniture. My territory had never brought in more than $100,000 a year. By the time I was done, it brought in $525,000. I never once spoke badly about my competition. I didn’t need to. I knew my product was good—and more than that, I knew God was with me.
When I look back on that Sunday in April, I realize it wasn’t just a moment. It was a turning point. A beginning. A commitment that shaped every step that followed.
And I can tell you this: giving your life to Jesus doesn’t mean everything becomes easy. But it does mean you never walk alone. He leads. He shields. He provides. He carries you through.
I’m living proof.
Takeaway for the Reader
Louis’s story reminds us that a single moment of surrender can redirect an entire life. When we respond to God’s invitation—whether at an altar, in a quiet room, or in the middle of an ordinary day—He doesn’t just save us. He leads us. He shields us. He works through us in ways we could never accomplish on our own. The invitation is still open:
Commit yourself fully to Christ and trust Him to shape every step that follows.
Closing Prayer
Gracious Lord, Thank You for the way You call each of us—sometimes softly, sometimes unmistakably—and for the new life that begins when we say yes to You. Strengthen our faith so we may follow Your lead with courage, even when the future feels uncertain. Surround us with Your favor as with a shield, just as You did for Louis. Teach us to trust Your plans, rely on Your strength, and walk in the confidence that You are always with us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
